CAPITAL FIRST LTD - MUST BUY

If we prepare an industry wise list of listed companies ,no doubt Financial Service Sector will be at the top by number .At the same time if the list is based on quality of promoters the same sector will be always at the bottom.Lot of bogus paper companies without any business operations are listed in our stock exchanges especially in BSE from this sector. So selecting a quality company from this sector warrant a close screening of its promoters integrity, executives quality  and the standard and professionalism  of its governing board etc ...

So far I recommended very rarely from this sector and the only  recommended stock from money lending business ( excluding housing finance)  – Cholamandalam Finance – already turned as a five bagger ( Recommended @ Rs.82 , touched a high of Rs.445 and currently trading @ Rs.405 Rec. Link HERE) . After a long gap ,recommending one stock from this sector which I believe as a stock with immense potential and led by quality management by all means .

Capital First limited – ( formerly known as Future capital Holdings)  came out with an IPO in 2008 and allotted shares at a price of Rs.765 per share. This company was originally promoted by Future group of Biyani’s .Later future group had lot of debt related issues mainly in their flagship – Pantaloon retail business.Due to this ,future group decided to exit from this company and same acquired by US based private equity investment firm  Warburg Pincus.Since this  company’s business is simple and similar in line with  other NBFC’s , I don’t think much explanation is needed about its business side .Why this company is special to me and what distinguishing it from other companies from the  same sector is –the people behind it.Before looking into this  important factor ,just few lines about its business. Company is an NBFC offering personal loan,Loan for consumer durables, gold loan, two wheeler loan, loan against property and distributing various insurance products.CAPF is present in 40 cities through its 164 branches . As on 31 March 2014 , assets under management (AUM) of company increased to  Rs.97 billion from Rs. 75.10 billion compared with just previous year and capital adequacy ratio  is healthy at 24 %. Due to management’s prudent decision to concentrate in retail lending , its gross NPA is just 0.45 %  and net NPA is only 0.08 % .This is one of the best among any listed NBFC’s. CAPF recently received license to start housing finance business through its subsidiary Capital First Home Finance Private Limited and it is expected to contribute from this year itself .

The real Differentiators

As I mentioned at the beginning itself , while selecting a stock from NBFC sector for investment purpose there is lot of options in this space. But if we look in detail ,many of them are only for name sake and quality wise very few companies deserves a serious look .Quality of people behind any company will surely reflect in quality of business. So let us look behind the curtain to get an idea about the people behind it .

First of all , For a business like NBFC , promoters ability to infuse funds is core point for business growth . CAPF is currently owned  by one of world’s largest and most reputed  US based private equity investment firm Warburg Pincus through its affiliate Cloverdell Investment Ltd. Warburg Pincus’ AUM is about $48 billion and invested in more than  700 companies in 35 countries.I think ,with such  a strong hand behind it , fund raising for expansion is not at all an issue for CAPF. Promoters currently holding about 72 % stake in CAPF . In addition to this ,recently HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company Ltd infused Rs.50 Cr by subscribing a 4% stake in this company.

In a business concentrating in financing retail clents , experience and expertise of leader is another important factor.MD of CAPF Mr V. Vaidyanathan is the best choice for this position.Mr .Vaidyanathan  need no introduction to banking and finance circles in India .He started his career with Citibank India Consumer Banking Division in 1990 and worked there till 2000 .Later he moved to ICICI Bank and appointed as Executive Director on the Board of ICICI Bank at the age of 38. He was also the Chairman of ICICI Home Finance Co. Ltd., and served on the Board of ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company and CIBIL.During his tenure with ICICI Bank he played  key role in Senior Management responsible for transition of ICICI from a Domestic Financial Institution to a Universal Bank. He launched the Retail Banking Business for ICICI , and transformed it into a large retail bank  in the country. He also built the SME business and Rural Banking Business for ICICI Bank.During his tenure ICICI received many awards including "Best Retail bank in Asia 2001", "Excellence in Retail Banking Award" 2002, "Best Retail Bank in India 2003, 2004, and 2005 from the Asian Banker", "Most Innovative Bank" 2007, and was nominated "Retail Banker of the Year" by EFMA Europe for 2008 and 2009. Whoever take the credit ,I believe ,Vaidyanathan is the master brain  who  make ICICI bank  as one of the top retail bank in the country . From May 2009 to August 2010 he served as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company. The then promoter of CAPF Mr,Kishore Biyani brought Vaidyanathan into CAPF in 2010 .Leadership of such an experienced retail banker is one of the biggest asset of CAPF .

        LATEST INTERVIEW WITH V VAIDYANATHAN   Video - 6 Min . ( Courtesy : CNBC TV 18)

Let us look into the board of CAPF which consists only top class professionals. Their brief profile as follows
Mr. N. C. Singhal – Former VC & MD, SCICI Ltd. (Later  merged with ICICI Ltd.)
Mr . M S SUNDARA RAJAN - Former Chairman & MD, Indian Bank
Mr .ANIL SINGHVI - Former MD & CEO, Ambuja Cements Ltd
Mr. HEMANG RAJA - Former MD & CEO, IL&FS Investmart Ltd.
Mr VISHAL MAHADEVIA - MD & Co-Head, Warburg Pincus India Private Ltd
Conclusion
After some difficult period under the Future group ,CAPF is now moving to the high growth path .Company reported an income from operations of Rs.1067 Cr and a net profit of Rs.53 Cr in FY 2014.In a recent interview MD of the company mentioned that the company's  profit will expand substantially  in FY 2015 compared with what it achieved in FY 2014. . In nut shell – there is everything in this company to emerge as one of the most successful NBFC in future and Capital First  is my top pick and a must buy from NBFC sector for any small/mid cap portfolio.Stock is listed in both exchanges and trading around  Rs.204.

    1. I have explained many times about it .Please don't consider my stock suggestions as 'TIPS' for making quick bucks. You should not jump into it immediately after seeing the name without studying the company but need to check whether the same is suitable according to your risk profile. If you are unable to buy a stock your loss is only notional and you are not loosing any real money .But if you are buying a wrong stock without proper study that will ends in real loss . Even if a stock is very good it will not move only in one direction .At certain level profit booking by early entrants will happen which will offer good entry points . Meanwhile you should prepare with proper due diligence and reach a price upto which level the stock is worth .Then you can use such correction to enter in it .

If my posing not follow a fixed time ,you will be forced to check the blog in each seconds on the posting day ,and If I post at a fixed time on week day there may not be any significant difference compared with the current situation, but people may jump into it without studying the company suggested.

    2. Dear VP,

It is my understanding that your most valuable efforts are being put to help retailers for long term...however it is my presumption that most of the stocks recommendations are being used by some operators, as the huge volume shows on monday on wards after the stock recommendation by you on Saturday which force small retailers are not able to buy if wish...

It is very fact that some operators are trading in huge volume after stock recommendation, within a week time or ten days they started to take profit and makes little correction, so It seems that your efforts are being enjoyed by some short term traders... and retail investors like me, we all entering to the stock with higher price as per our own analyse and risk.

I believe you would prefer investor rather than traders, it is my request that if stock recommendation proposed in weekdays will helpful for investors.

Again if anybody jump into the stock without analyzing after your recommendation,it can be informed that they would be liable for their all risk..

I believe this request would be considered....

    3. VP sir, it is a very valuable point that you have made... I have been observing your blog for few months...every time when you have discussed about a stock it jumps to UC, immaterial of the past trend of the stock. So in all cases followers of ur blog like me are unable to purchase at the price indicated in this blog. Having said that those stocks continue in UC and surge upto 20-30%, then profit booking takes place and it gets corrected to 10-15%... looking these stocks as multibaggers purchasing them after this initial run-up correction shouldn't be a problem for investors like me.

      Delete
    4. Yes of course, the recommended stocks can be purchased after corrections as per the individual risk category,,, i have expressed my opinion that VP real investors are being enjoyed by traders rather than intended investors which makes investors are not able to buy the VP recommended price in blog....

  10. Dear Sir,

My only issue with this company is promoters selling their stakes, or am i reading this wrong, cos in the recent disclosures, promoters are selling and in the same space I see CAPRI GLOBAL promoters are buying from open market. Could you please clarify which is better Promoter buying or selling?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is your misunderstanding .Promoters are not selling a single share instead they are increasing their stake time to time. The disclosure you are seeing as selling is by few employees who allotted the shares in ESOP and the quantity is very small by each employee. It is not a serious matter in this case

When the change in promoters took effect in September 2012 , Warburg Pincus stake through Cloverdell Investment Ltd was only 43 % .Now in latest June 2014 quarter it is inching up to the maximum permissible limit and currently close to 72 % . How we can say they are selling ?

Seeing your comment ,I believe you have some vested interest in Capri Global and not sure whether you are aware about the history of Capri Global.

Old name of Capri Global was Money Matters and this company and its promoters figured in the multi crore loan scam ( Read detail in the link provided at the end of this reply) . I am not saying price of Capri Global will not move but I don't like to stick with unethical management especially from Financial service sector and not interested to suggest such stocks to my readers who trust me ,even such stocks may make money.

      Read the story below

    2. Thanks Sir,

It was just a query cos I mistook Employee selling as Promoter Selling. And No, I am not invested even a single pie in Capri Global just that you always ask us readers to research a few things on the stocks you recommend and since I use the AxisDirect Demat facility wherein comparison etc are shown, i came across Capri Global that is all...No way shall I doubt your integrity especially with so many multibaggers (if my count is correct more than 80%) for the past few years there is no way I can point fingers....Thanks for the very important input about Capri Global though.

Please keep up the good work and be the leading lights to many of us as always

  14. Dear

Each and every investor following different methods for stock selection. It may be P/E for you and if it is working well you should stick with it.

For me, It is not the prime concern.I believe ,P/E is helpful to get a picture how a company comparable with its peers in the same industry but it is purely based on the past financial figures .Such a comparison will give some comfort and we will get some indication how much is the risk left on the down side. But it will not give a true picture about its future, In many cases high P/E is an indication of better future too and not only always due to manipulation or so .. .We should consider it on a case to case basis.

I clearly asked my doubts over this stock and have bought after reply from Valuepick and once convinced am holding it for long term until of course something drastic happens from the management side. First ask then buy not buying blindly and then asking questions :-) :-)

If the same stock was in Upper circuit guys would have been complaining again :-)

  51. This was I guess a "Speculative Bet "
Everyone knows the promoters of future group . most of the big bazar shops have shut down .. After hitting 239 20% upper circuit the stock fell to 220 ..
This may be a coincidence but try to stay away from liquid names ..
After your recommendation for a stock to move 50-100% doesn't justify .. I think its unethical on your part .. Many of them must have sold the stock by today itself ..

    1. Now I really feel ,I am only wasting my entire time and no use for my efforts . I clearly mentioned in the above post that Future group is not the owners of this company and they sold it to Warburg Pincus .I don't know why readers like you are not ready to spend at least 10 minutes to understand about a company and jumping into it /comment just after reading the heading . I don't think any retail investor will make money from stock market if this is the method adopting for investment .If many big bazar shops shut down how that effect an NBFC owned by world's largest and reputed private equity investor Warburg Pincus ???

      REALLY HORRIBLE .............:((((((((((((((((

    7. Friend - try to spend some good time in reading through the write up of d company.. Make ur own research and analysis as well.. If u still feel that it's not a worthy company, then don't invest even if god asks u to do so.. There is not in investing in anything without self belief and proper analysis.. This s seriously hurting! VP is doing something great without any expectation from us.. Yet u people talk all nonsense here.. VP sir a big salute for u on behalf of all ur fans n followers.. I started reading your blog from 2010, cautiously invested in KSCL , Granules, DHP etc and made good profit . More important than the profits, I learnt a lot from your approach.
People should understand that money doesn't come easy . Owning a stock is like owning a business. One cannot run away from his own business by seeing the ticker on moment to moment basis.

    13. Haha looks like he didnt even read the entire post. Its not under Future group any more. Show some respect to the person doing good work. You dont have to buy any stocks if you are not convinced. From you post it looks like you are not even fit to be an investor.

    14. I think VP can spend your valuable time to answer for the queries which makes sense.
People who are blaming here about the immediate movement of the stocks , they are not really long term buyers.Better SKIP the queries.
I am watching your site here for almost 1 year and I didn't loose money after reading your analysis and interested to read all your Company reports.
By the way, Many people to make quick money investing huge quantity in a stock and started crying for every movement.
Slow and Steady wins the race. Invest in small quantity for long term in many good stocks and keep patience and sleep peacefully.
I request the readers to think twice before posting. This is place where we are getting free reports & investment ideas. Thanks.

  64. Dear VPji,

Please dont get irritated by a few illiterate visitors of your blog. Many retail investors including me were immensely benefitted. I myself follower of your blog from 2010 got wide range of knowledge from you. Before that I burnt my fingers several times. After regularly visiting your blog I got the ability to analyse the stocks. Not all the stock you recommend convince me even though their price increase. I fully study and analyse the company on saturday & sunday and if i am convinced i will buy. So you are doing are great (godly) job to people like me.

So, please dont think that you time and efforts is waste because of few traders. I am repeatedly saying many small investors are benefitted because of you.

I have sold a single stock till date and my portfolio value is growing day by day. My sincere advice to others is please dont throw mud and irritate a noble man who is doing a great service to small investors. Nobody is compelling to visit this blog or to buy shares recommended by VPji.

VPji, I once request you to continue your yemen service and reject and neglect these people.

  70. Friends

I am not against or above criticism and not worried about the author's interpretation as a "Speculative bet" . In the past itself ,permitted lot of criticism and posted reply for that . What I really concerned about is his statement about the current ownership of the company . Even I clearly mentioned about it ,he never spend 5 minutes to read it , just read the headline and treat it as a blog for providing TIP for speculation ..
