Dear Friends
By now , many of you are aware about the new restrictions implemented by SEBI ( Read it HERE) . Based on this regulations , it seems no one can express his/her opinion about a stock through any public media without taking prior registration with SEBI .Only the following are exempted from the term 'Research Report'

By now , many of you are aware about the new restrictions implemented by SEBI ( Read it HERE) . Based on this regulations , it seems no one can express his/her opinion about a stock through any public media without taking prior registration with SEBI .Only the following are exempted from the term 'Research Report'
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(i) Comments on general trends in the securities market
(ii) Discussions on the broad based indices
(iii) Commentaries on economic, political or market conditions
(iv) Periodic reports or other communications prepared for unit holders
of mutual fund or alternative investment fund or clients of portfolio managers and investment advisers
(v) Internal communications that are not given to current or prospective
clients
(vi) Communications that constitute offer documents or prospectus that
are circulated as per regulations made by the Board
(vii) Statistical summaries of financial data of the companies
(viii) Technical analysis relating to the demand and supply in a sector or
the index
(ix) Any other communication which the Board may specify from time to
time
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because of this reason , I am not in a position to openly express my views ( though I am neither a research analyst nor claiming like that ) on any company till some clarity emerges in this issue . Hence , from next third Saturday onwards only the Statistical summary of financial data of a company I am holding will be posting here.Never take it as a recommendation for buying/selling and I hope you will do own due diligence and reach own conclusions after your own study . You can also refer my Moneycontrol message board id ' valuepick' ( Link ). ( I think , like many others ,I too can post there till they continue that service) .Because of the above reason comments on stock specific queries too in this blog will be restricted from hereon and only general queries will be answered .You can still contact me in my mail id valuepick100@gmail.com

DeleteLots of people here claim that they benefit from your research as they research the stocks you recommend and then buy them. But I feel that there is a very small proportion that actually does research.
ReplyDeleteI worked as a research analyst for a while and also invest in my personal portfolio. Your level of research just amazes me. I am curious to learn about your investment process. I realize you may not want to share the process but advice on how one should go about filtering stocks might actually benefit people like me who do their own research. In short, I'm hoping you might be able to guide us on what a good filtering process should contain, on how exactly do you do fundamental analysis. Do you maintain excel models? I know you talk to management of companies but any thoughts on this matter would help.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm really keen to do my own research on a stock but often get stuck with a starting point on how to identify a list of stocks before actually doing in depth research. Your experience makes it easy for you to start but how did you approach the process when you started 24 years back?
So my request to you is to please provide us with some insights and share your wealth of experience with us. I feel this would be a lot more beneficial to people who actually want to do their own research rather than those who blindly follow your recommendations.
I hope you will publish this and also provide some answers. No guidelines can restrict you from sharing your thoughts on a process in this blog.
Thank you in advance,
Prakash Mehra
Research methodology of each person may different . I always prefer to use a common sense based approach rather than depending equations , number crunching , technical jargons ..etc.On parameters of conventional equity research methodologies , this plain vanilla method may be termed as a third class one and the so called analysts community may argue this is not even eligible to called as 'Research' But from my past 20 + year experience , I strongly believe this is my way and it is not inferior to any other methods . But in some cases - not in return generation - this method may create problem . For Eg.Take the case of SEBI registration itself . They are asking for previously published research reports along with application for registration for any existing Research Analysts. But I am not a fool to believe that they will accept any report I published here are eligible to called as 'Research Report ' . Normally they expect a 5-10 page conventional type report with lot of number crunching ,technical data ..etc .etc which is not my cup of tea.
DeleteMy stock selection method is very simple . Look around us and find out emerging trends using our common sense . Follow promoters to understand their ability to grow if an opportunity exists and also understand their mentality towards minority share holders . Then combine all these factors and enter in such companies when the same available at attractive valuation compared with its future potential ( not based on its past performance alone ) . This is what I am trying to do.
Excellent
DeleteUnbeatable reply sir
DeleteThanks for your suggestion
Thanks vp ji
ReplyDeleteThank you sir for still encouraging us to send mails to your personal ID to understand the companies better. Thanks for being a guiding light.
ReplyDeleteDear sir,
ReplyDeletePl. clearly tell me.that you from where continue your opinion here at this blog or money control site or any other site or else where so pl. sir kindly inform me in full details of your all blogs else where.
I don't know why there is still confusion ?. As per new rules , lot of limitations to express BUY /SELL/Hold suggestions here .Hence only discussions or postings on general subjects will continue here and anything more than that may be possible in MMB still that platform exists.

ReplyDeleteSir, your commonsense method as against data crunching method has got you more success and followers than the conventional research analysts. The commonsense approach appealed also to a lot of investors like us who could make more sense of it than we can from the chart filled research papers. We will miss your blog recommendations immensely. We are consoled however by the fact that we can follow you on MMB. Yet we harbour the hope that someday soon SEBI will reconsider its restrictions and relax them and you will be able to give full fledged recommendations in your earlier way.

ReplyDeleteDear sir,
ReplyDeleteI have one question regarding Bambino...you have suggested to book profit in this stock for low to avg risk takers.I suppose it means a full profit, right? Sometimes you tell to book partial profit...like sell 50% etc. On what basis do you come up with booking full or partial profit?
Regards
Narasimham
Last quarter good performance was mainly due to a tax write back . Not expecting the same in coming quarter.
DeleteThank you sir,
DeleteSo one of your strategies is when you don't see much growth happening in the immediate quarter...you sell it all?
But if we come to polyplex like stocks even though they are flat or change by 10-20% for 1 -2 quarters also...they have a lot of scope for growth and we wait? Right sir?
Becoz the same happened with Basant Agro too...it was there at INR 3-4 for a long time before it rose to INR 8-10...and we waited..
Regards
Narasimham

As you said you are not research analyst so the rules does not apply to you to express your views here on your blog. You can always use this platform to talk about company you believe in rather than gving buy or hold call.
ReplyDeleteIs that not possible?
We need your advice, thousands are following you.
Sir are you still going to continue in MMB...??
