SAMKRG PISTONS & RINGS LTD - RACING AHEAD

The leading sector may change in each and every leg of bull market .Considering the possibility of multiple favorable factors like   fall in Petrol/Diesel prices , decline in interest rate, reduction in raw material cost ..etc ..etc , auto  sector may emerge as a winner in future  . If this sector benefit from the emerging scenario, surely there will be positive  impact on auto component makers too. This week let us look into one such good company-SAMKRG PISTONS & RINGS LTD-  which is still attractively priced .This is one company benefiting  from the sale of  any of the brands like Honda Motors,Bajaj, TVS,Piaggio,Mahindra Two wheelers, Hero Motors, Force Motors..etc.( All these companies are clients of Samkrg Pistons.)

This Hyderabad based company manufacturing Pistons, Piston Pins & Piston Rings for Scooters, Motorcycles, Cars, Tractors, Light Commercial Vehicles, Stationary Engines and other special applications. Company selling its products under the brand ‘Sam Pistons &Rings’ .Manufactured with Japanese and German technology , Samkrg  supplying these products to all major OEM’s . In addition to OEM supply ,  company selling its products in Replacement Market & Exports.Company’s success in exports to developed countries like UK, France, Germany and EU showing the quality of products manufactured by Samkrg .Company succeeded to increase its export share to total sales in past many years and now the same stands around 20 % of total sales.Since majority of my readers are well aware about its products and the business is easy to understand I am not explaining much about that . In nut shell , company is one to benefit with the growth of automobile industry and many of the  top brands in our country are using Samkarg’s products.

In addition to their good relation with top brands ,the major reasons to select Samkrg from many  other auto component makers includes   the strong balance sheet, liberal attitude towards share holders, steady growth over past many years ..etc. Company’s balance sheet is fair with very lower level of debt , good cash flow ..etc and they are distributing their profit with minority share holders as dividends in the range of 25-50 % .In last year  company reported a top line of Rs.206 Cr , EPS of Rs.11 and a CEPS of Rs.21.5 . Traditionally the December quarter is bit muted but I  believe company can report about 40% growth in bottom line in this FY.

The below table showing  company's last few year's performance ( Rs.in lacs)

It is clear that the performance of company were satisfactory even during the most tough time of auto industry . I hope, it will perform well going forward at a time there are  many positives  for the industry ,as indicated at the beginning. As against last full year's  EPS of Rs.11 and CEPS of Rs.21.50 , company already  reported an EPS of Rs.7.75 and CEPS of Rs.13.30 in the first half itself  of this FY  .This is one preferred pick from auto component industry and I believe there is lot of steam still left in this piston in long term .Stock is currently trading around Rs.163 and listed only in BSE .

    1. Omax is a big company compared with Samkrg but their margins are thin. Prima facie we may feel Omax back to profit in last quarter , but if we reduce an exceptional item of Rs.7.6 Cr , Omax's last quarter was still in loss.

I want to know your view on cement sector at this juncture, I feel cement companies are fairly valued, I know you are tracking JK Lakshmi cement but it has run up a lot in recent times. Are there any other companies which are good to enter at present?

How about Heidelberg Cement, it is a 3rd largest cement producer in the world which is currently available at 90.

    Thanks

    1. Not strictly tracking Heidelberg.

But seems you have mistaken in one point . The India listed company is not the 3rd largest cement producer in the world . Heidelberg is a German based group and it may be the group as a whole a big producer of Cement.

    1. If you are interested in Paper stocks , go for South India Paper Mill which is the only company I am currently tracking from this sector.Nowadays investors considering courier & logistics stocks as a proxy play of E-commerce . But once there is consolidation in E-commerce only few large players or companies concentrating in niche products may survive as happened in the telecom sector . In such a situation these biggies may start own logistic facilities or squeeze the margins of logistic providers . But chances for E-commerce companies starting paper mills for packaging material is a remote chance. If I am not mistaken South India Paper mill is one of the largest players manufacturing paper for corrugated boxes used to ship products by E-comm companies and they are supplying the same to few well known names in this industry. Now they are expanding their capacity too for this products. In future investors may consider such companies as proxy play for E-commerce .

    2. Sir, Whats your view about Andhra international paper which is in the same business .Thanks

      Delete
    3. Hi VP,
Don't you think setting up own logistic infrastructure will be a huge challenge for these e-comm players. Flipkart has already raised concerns about their ambitious own logistics division. They them self projected that 3rd party logistic business will double in coming year and their own logistics will be used for managing sales returns.
      http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2015-01-12/news/57983090_1_logistics-companies-ekart-flipkart

So I expect this will work in favor of companies like bluedart, gati, TCI and Patel Integrated etc. Please share your views.

Apart from that the logistic companies will play back bone for infrastructure growth as well.

Thanks a lot for your great service to retail investors and new bees like me. You changed my perception about stock market. For me stock market was gambling and I stayed away from that till now. Recently came across your blog and as well as couple of others like Arun guru and Pokaran etc. And it was an eye opener.

Hello, looks like MIC Electronics is having some legal trouble with their Nasik contract? Any change in your views? I know you suggested it for high risk takers, but is it ok for them also to continue to hold for long term?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not sure about the sustainability of such a complaint in court.Because , MIC got this order few years back but some court cases was there against the tender process . The court itself restricted the implementation of projects till the case disposed off .In such a situation what they can do ? . Only recently court cleared the case in favour of MIC and permitted to go ahead. In this circumstances ,if someone complaining about non implementation within scheduled time , I believe company have a valid reason to prove it is not because of company's fault. I am not a legal expert but I doubt whether such a complaint will sustain in court.

Thank you for your wonderful service.

SKM Annual Report says that out of its installed capacity of 6300 MTS, it produced 5469 MTS of Egg Powder and 1189 MTS of liquid egg, during FY'14. Does that mean, without further capacity expansion the volume growth of the company (in the core egg powder category) is capped at around 15% from the current level?

Are they executing or planning for any capacity expansion?

    Thanking you...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. As per the info shared in AGM , company targeting to reach Rs.500 Cr turnover in next few years . There should be capacity expansion for that and the same is expected to happen once it turned as debt free by next year or so. In a recent interview published in business line ( Link Below) , MD indicated their plans to grow even through inorganic route ( growth through acquisitions) . They tried their level best to bring back the company from the brink of disaster which faced few years back . Let us show patience and be a genuine long term investor . Till then , remaining unused capacity ,product price, exchange gain , debt reduction, developing higher margin products ,raw material cost ..etc will play

Sir, we have always wanted to know, what is it about a company that makes you want to track it? What are your parameters for it? It cannot be just growing midcaps because many midcaps you ignore but at the same time you pick out many midcap gems too. What is the factor you are looking for? Sir, teach us fishing too instead of giving us fishes every fortnight, (not that we mind, :) ), but still sir, what is the criteria you use? We all appreciate your work for the investing community. We are planning to open a fanclub in your name too !! :)

Can you study fundamentals for this stock for me, because If I am not wrong this could be on recovery path and can go very long like V2 retail.

After your valuable study, may be I got some confidence.

    Thanks

    1. I can't recommend a stock to my readers which is trading with Rs.86 Cr market cap even without a Sales of just Rs.5 Cr unless I am aware about some extremely positive future development. Whether stock price move or not is another matter in a bull market like this , but I don't like to sacrifice the methods I am following for stock selection.

    1. In stock market there is no meaning in saying like ' want to keep for 2 years'. As you are aware ,like a bank FD, keeping stocks for long time will not ensure any guaranteed high return . We can't say in advance what will happen to the world and for companies in the next two years . So committing money for long term is good , but it does not means buy and forget is the method to be followed.. You closely track the company and take decisions accordingly. At present Ashok Leyland is good to hold.
